Enough of that, on to the review!
I've built and been programming the mBot (and Starter 'bot, too) from Makeblock for a couple of weeks now. The mBot includes an ultrasonic sensor used to find objects. I wanted to allow the sensor to get a bigger picture of the surroundings - hence the servo pack.
Like every Makeblock product I've purchased (a lot), this one came well packed and with a bunch of extra "little" pieces. So if you or your kid drops the essential but tiny screw into the carpet or under the desk, you most likely have an extra sitting there. Nice. Also like every thing I've used from them so far, quality is top notch.
I was able to get my servo up and running the same morning it was dropped on my porch.
Now my sensor can sweep back and forth as my mBot charges across the kitchen floor. Great addition to my little bot.
I didn't give it five stars because of the programming issues. If you download the program on a MAC or Windows PC it will crash your computer even with all the patches. Both systems crashed the same canned answer is given when you complain of the problem or help with a solution. They are not real helpful and have not upgraded the patches and extensions since 2009 I believe was the latest extension which you will need to run the boards.
As a toy fun! As a person learning or wanting to get their feet wet in robotics and programming, there are way better ones out there. Awesome for kids not adults wanting programming. Do your research. I will say that the MAC was a much easier crash to fix windows had bugs and more problems clearing the issues up but no real harm to either.
