That was my first mistake.
So...I read and re-read the instructions. After all; I wanted to have a perfect chair at the end. So I applied the leather cleaner. And then I re-applied. I then soaked the chair with the cleaner. Reason? Well, the first two times, I was getting nothing coming up on the cloth at all, and I knew the arms were pretty dirty. Heck, I even drill brushed this puppy with the solution, and it wasn't really cleaning the leather. Finally, when I had a microfiber cloth that had some light soiling on it, I decided to condition.
This was my second mistake.
I applied it lightly, with my microfiber cloth (I have a pack of them, each time I applied anything, it was fresh, each time I wiped or polished, or scrubbed, etc...the cloths were fresh as well). My chair smelled pretty bad, and it was as sticky as flypaper. So, I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed some more. No change at all. I thought it might need time to dry. Fast forward to this afternoon, and the chair still smelled of the cream and was still really sticky. Not a little, but stick to the seat sticky.
So, today, before writing this review, I took more of the cleaner and redid the chair. No change. Finally, a Bob Vila article suggested washing leather furniture with water and Johnsons Baby Shampoo. That took some of the sticky off it, finally. But the chair is STILL sticky. It wasn't sticky when I started this. I'll add this: the microfiber towel I washed the chair with using the shampoo was far dirtier (this chair wasn't gross at all, just needed a cleaning) than the Chemical Brothers cleaner.
Moral of the story: just because a bunch of people say "Yay" to a product does not mean it's any good. In fact, I'm sorta thinking professional reviewers are writing up Hosanna's to the Chemical Guy's products to make them look great, when in fact, the stuff they're selling here on Amazon (at least this product set) aren't all they're advertised to be.
I'm really sorta bummed. I was really looking forward to a supple leather experience after using their products. Instead, I'm forced to return them for a refund.
Save your money. These products don't do the job that they're advertising they do. Just check complaints from around the world on the web. I'm not the only one frustrated with these products.
As a side note: I was extremely careful to NOT over condition the chair. And even if I had, their product should have cleaned off the excess and left me with a clean slate.
Shame on you Chemical Guys!
Even using a small amount, this stuff left my leather slippery and smelling horrible! They say this is the smell of "new" leather, complete nonsense. This stuff smells rank, perhaps they were going for the skin of a dead cow rotting in the sun, because they nailed that perfectly! And even better, this smell NEVER GOES AWAY. Anything this stuff touches will forever be fused with the product. Cloths, DONE, microfiber cloths, DONE, your leather, DONE.
I washed off the applicator that I used to remove any excess product, and made the mistake of throwing in what I thought was a mostly clean applicator into the wash with my other micro fiber towels. BIG BIG BIG mistake. Even with a small quantity of product left on the applicator, it it forever penetrated EVERYTHING in the washing machine, including the washing machine itself! I have run 3 cycles so far and I cannot get the smell to budge. Not to mention, all of my microfiber towels are slimey and ruined now.
This is a garbage product, do not trust it, it's awful and I don't believe it actually does anything for your leather.
You have been warned!
I spent so much time researching the products to assure safety even on designer leather items and my $2500+ purse is DESTROYED. At first, the moisture from the cleaner made the leather supple, but when I went in with a small cloth and conditioner I noticed a bit of color transfer but thought it was from a previous treatment I had maybe done. I put it on my new purse I immediately had LEATHER BITS and color dye COME OFF onto the cloth, and I immediately stopped and cleaned it off. It is absolutely DESTROYED. Front and back handles, and the edge trimming on ALL 4 sides, all the places that are first seen. Before and after included. I did a sample test on a coin pouch, and I NEVER would have used this if the destruction didn’t take 24 hours to really develop. Absolutely gutted. Company response was "Sorry our product damaged your vehicle" and no suggestions, reasons, nothing was given. I fixed my bag using the Saphir Renovating Cream which filled the dents with resin and color and made it literally new again.
